Location and Reporting:

This is a hybrid role reporting to AAF's Wall Street office and will be required to be in the office  2 days a week. Special events or convenings may require this person to work on occasional weeknights/weekends.

About the Opportunity: 

This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic, and policy-oriented individual to work on a number of AAF’s research and community organizing projects focused on the Asian American community. The individual will support a variety of research projects that support AAF’s policy priorities on immigration, mental health, seniors, nonprofit support, and 2020 Census. These projects will be used to inform policy makers, community organizations, and other stakeholders on the state of the Asian American community. This is an ideal role for recent graduate students looking to gain exposure to policy research work at a nonprofit organization.

What You’ll Do:

As the Research Associate, responsibilities will include, but are not exclusive to:

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Create content for demographic profiles and reports, including compiling data; creating graphs, tables, and maps; writing reports; and designing report layouts
  • Obtain and process administrative data sets for use in research analyses
  • Analyze data products from the U.S. Census Bureau and other relevant data on Asian Americans
  • Provide customized data and mapping services.
  • Collect and interpret data from governmental and community-based institutions.
  • Collect and organize survey/focus group data.
  • Respond to general requests for data on Asian Americans, especially covering the New York metropolitan area.
  • Organize a user-friendly data management system for Federation CIC.

Research Support

  • Promote and facilitate Federation research products, including studies and data requests.
  • Contribute to the writing of research reports and publications.
  • Conduct interviews with key study informants and stakeholders.
  • Review relevant literature and provide the team with summaries, as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; recent graduate student in public policy, social research, or demography preferred

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software (i.e. Stata, R, SQL or Tableau) and geographic analysis software (i.e. ArcGIS, QGIS, mapbox)
  • Experience working with data products from the U.S. Census Bureau is a plus (i.e. American Community Survey, decennial census)
  • Background in public policy, public administration, data-driven projects, community organizing, immigration, and/or working with marginalized groups a plus

Compensation & Benefits: 

The salary range from $59,000-$61,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package includes generous paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as a 403(b) plan.

To uphold organizational parity and pay equity, AAF will use a non-negotiable salary structure that takes into consideration the entire breadth of a candidate’s experience, employment, and education to arrive at their base salary.
